Turn away from false teachings

(Romans 16:17-19) “Now I urge you, brethren, keep your eye on those who cause dissensions and hindrances contrary to the teaching which you learned, and turn away from them. For such men are slaves, not of our Lord Christ but of their own appetites; and by their smooth and flattering speech they deceive the hearts of the unsuspecting. For the report of your obedience has reached to all; therefore I am rejoicing over you, but I want you to be wise in what is good and innocent in what is evil.”

In this greeting, it was necessary for the Apostle Paul to warn the Romans against hurtful teachings and false practices that damage the truth of Christianity and are its supreme fear. Authentic love will be ready to forgive all evil, but there is no way it will excuse or ignore it. When we truly love other believers who are dear to us, we HAVE TO warn them about falsehood teachings, sin and unrighteous practices.

Paul goes on by telling us that such deceitful men, such false disguised teachers, are slaves of their self-centeredness. They only have smooth and flattering words coming out of their mouth to deceive the hearts of the innocents. They are dishonest and cannot be trusted for they are not of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We are encouraged to be obedient to the Word of God: we are to be wise in what is good and innocent in what is evil.
We are not to follow any human’s teachings as we have only one Teacher, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, to Him be the glory forever.

May the Lord of lords and King of kings, the Prince of Peace, guide each and everyone of us to His Truth keeping us away from compromises.
