The meaning of Mary’s name

Now, the author, who has the agenda of making Mary something that she is not, wants to know what the name of Mary was among her people and what her name means… Look what an important matter!… As if one would not be saved if he didn’t know what this Hebrew name means… Maybe our author forgets what Peter said:

“And salvation is in none other (i.e. none other than Jesus Christ), for neither is there another name under heaven which is given among men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)

So this Roman Catholic who thinks that Peter was the first Pope of his heresy doesn’t even believe what his “first Pope” said…

As you can see in Acts 4:12, no other name under heaven means anything for our Salvation. Only the Name of Jesus Christ saves, and that’s why the angel who brought the good news of Christ’s birth told Joseph WHY the Child would be called JESUS:

“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21)

The Holy Spirit clearly explained WHY the Child should be called Jesus, because that is essential for our Salvation. However, when it comes to the name of His mother in flesh, the Holy Spirit NOWHERE explains why she was called Mary, because that is of no importance for our Salvation. As you remember, John wrote in his Gospel account:

“Many other signs therefore also Jesus did before his disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that ye may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing ye might have life in his name.” (John 20:30-31)

(Note how again the Holy Spirit links our Salvation to the Name of Jesus).

Now, although John wrote this passage concerning his Gospel account, but we should not forget that the Gospel according to John is written by the same Spirit who wrote the whole Bible. The same Spirit whose purpose in the Gospel according to John was to tell us what is necessary for our Salvation is also the Author of the whole Bible and has the same purpose in the whole Bible. So if He didn’t tell us what the name of Mary means, then that has no importance for our Salvation. Point. Anything further than this is purely human philosophy, and we should not let that philosophy turn our eyes from Jesus.

I should make an important comment here. You will notice in all our studies of the heretical Marian worship that the main error that is behind all this false teaching about Mary is the wrong idea that Mary is the Mother of God. This false idea made many people conclude that Mary was the source of Jesus and the source of all what Jesus is… As we go further in our comments, you will see how what I just said is true. I leave my comments about this false teaching for the concerned time and place.

As we have seen above, the Holy Spirit clearly gives the meaning of the Name of Jesus. And as this Roman Catholic wants to make Mary like Jesus, so he tries to link her name with something related to our Salvation, although the Holy Spirit has said NOTHING at all about her name and clearly excluded her and all humans from the cause of our Salvation. The Holy Spirit made it clear that our Salvation is by ONE Name, the Name of JESUS CHRIST. Now, let’s see the philosophy of this author:

Among the Aramaic speaking Jews of her own time she was called “Maryam,” the Hebrew version of which is “Miriam.” There is some debate, but many scholars connect the name to a root whose meaning is “bitter.” It was not lost on the early Christians, however, that the Aramaic form of her name could be broken down to two words meaning “Lord of the Sea” (Mar = Lord, Yam = Sea) which they saw as referring to Christ the “Fish.” (The letters of the Greek word for “fish” were taken by early Christians to stand for “Jesus Christ God’s Son Savior”)

As you can see, he confesses that many scholars agree that her name means “bitter”… But how can this meaning serve his purpose of making Mary more than who she is? It can’t… So he makes a clownish effort to extract from the name of Mary something that would mean that she is more than a mere human… So he jumps to the Aramaic form of the name, although Mary was a Jew, and the Jewish names were after their Hebrew meaning… Even here, he reaches a deadlock: how can Mary be the “Lord of the Sea”?? So he jumps again to Jesus and applies that meaning on Him, and he forgets that he was talking about the meaning of Mary‘s name… It seems that for many Roman Catholics there is no difference between Mary and Jesus; they are the same… What a blasphemy… And how did this man jump from the “Lord of the sea” to the “fish”?? Does he mean that the fish is the Lord of the sea?…

By the way, note how the Aramaic “Mar” means “Lord”… Did you know that the Eastern heretics who follow the heresy of Rome call their Saints “Mar”??… A simple example: Mar Charbel… Imagine what a blasphemy! They call Charbel “Lord”, although the Bible teaches us that we don’t have any other Lord than Jesus Christ… But one can expect any blasphemy from Roman Catholics who do not know Christ…

Mary is NOT the Lord of any sea… Her name has no relation to our Salvation. So as you can see this author wasted our times with his irrelevant and inexact explanations.

Grace be with you!
Disciple of Jesus Christ
